About the Event

CariGuard (formerly Talius Caribbean) will be hosting the National Disaster Preparedness Expo on May 18, 2024, at Building #3, Six Roads, St. Phillip.

This event seeks to highlight to the general public, the varied considerations that are taken when preparing for disasters, share tips on how persons can go about their preparation, health and wellness tips, and other relevant information.

As a public awareness initiative, CariGuard wishes to keep the event free of costs to patrons to maximize information sharing.

BACKGROUND

In 2018 CariGuard, launched the Hurricane Preparedness Expo as a part of the Department of Emergency Management’s Hurricane Preparedness Month, to raise the awareness of the general public regarding the steps that can be taken to be prepared for the hurricane season.

Following the launch, the event was hosted by CariGuard an additional 3 times, establishing and nurturing relationships with the exhibitors.

In 2023 the event experienced over a 50% growth in the number of confirmed and actual exhibitors, garnering feedback from both exhibitors and patrons regarding the event.

All of the exhibitors expressed their pleasure regarding the opportunity to share information with the community, as well as, the ability to interact with other entities, and hinted at the need for an indoor location due to the heat. The patrons were delighted with the diversity of the vendors and the creation of a great learning experience.

They were however concerned with the limited number of activities for children.

In alignment with their corporate social responsibility to support initiatives that enhance the lives of people in communities, CariGuard sees this event as an opportunity to give back to the Barbadian public in a way that both entertains and educates our communities to prepare and protect themselves before, during and after any disastrous occurrence.
